Civil aviation meteorological services in the Republic of Bulgaria are provided according to the standards and the recommended practices of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).
Pursuant to these requirements BULATSA has at its disposal modern observation, communication and presentation equipment:
Automated meteorological observation systems located at the international airports of Sofia, Varna, Burgas, Plovdiv and Gorna Oryahovitsa;
Doppler MET Radars located at Sofia and Varna Airports;
A system for the receipt, processing and presentation of MET data from the METEOSAT Satellite;
A satellite system receiving information from ICAO's World Area Forecast System;
A communications centre for the receipt and dissemination of global and regional analytical MET information and weather forecasts from the world meteorological centres and the World Area Forecast Centre;
Computer systems for ATIS radio transmission in Sofia, Varna and Burgas, and for VOLMET radio transmission in Sofia.
